Are you unknowingly using these common toxic household items?

Air Fresheners containing phthalates

These are sometimes listed as “fragrance” often found in:

  • Air Fresheners
  • Candles
  • All-purpose cleaners

Animal studies have indicated that phthalates are carcinogenic. Can cause liver, testicular and pancreatic tumors.

We don’t recommend using air fresheners near your pets, they are typically inside more than we are. These particles can end up on surfaces and bedding where your pets then ingest it by licking their paws etc.

When purchasing candles look for natural soy wax & phthalate free. There are some great pet safe candles on the market. Always make sure your pet has the option to leave a room where a candle is burning.

Cleaning Products Containing Ammonia

  • Oven Cleaners
  • Window Cleaners
  • Stainless Steel Cleaners
  • Many multi-surface cleaners

Ammonia causes severe irritation to skin and eyes as well as burning of the nose, throat and stomach if licked from a surface.

Remember, our pets walk on on our floors and often lick their paws, ingesting what we just cleaned the floor with.

Cleaning Products Containing Bleach

  • Scouring Pads
  • Toilet Bowl Cleaners
  • Mildew Removers
  • Basic Bleach
  • Laundry Detergent
  • Dishwashing Detergent
  • All Purpose Cleaners

Ingesting bleach can cause vomiting, diarrhea, burns inside the mouth or throat, seizures and shock. Inhaling fumes can lead to respiratory illness.

Glycol Ethers

  • All Purpose Cleaners
  • Carpet Cleaners
  • Glass Cleaners
  • Liquid Soaps

Extremely toxic when inhaled or ingested. Glycol ethers have been linked to serious health issues such as; anemia, kidney damage and developmental problems

My favorite homemade all purpose cleaner

50/50 White Vinegar and Water – with lemon juice

Using Baking Soda if you need something abrasive

White vinegar even removes stubborn sticky residue

Baking Soda is excellent at soaking up grease/oil

Don’t want to make your own cleaners? Just look more for natural options at the store which don’t contain the above toxic ingredients.
