Canned food, is it superior to kibble?
Not only is canned food less processed than kibble, but canned food has added moisture and a high-quality canned food usually contains fewer carbohydrates.
If your dog or cat is eating a dry food diet, they’re probably not getting enough moisture. Wet food can help keep your dog or cat hydrated. Canned food is usually around 70% moisture while dry food is only 10%. This is especially important for our kitties since they aren’t good drinkers.
Ingredients in canned food are generally less processed and closer to their original state, making them more palatable and nutritious when compared to kibble.
But how are your pet’s teeth going to get clean without kibble?
The saying that kibble helps clean our pet’s teeth is a myth.
This would be like me saying you don’t need to brush your teeth today, you can just go home and eat some pretzels.
In fact, kibble may actually do the opposite. Kibble gets stuck in the teeth, the carbs in the kibble break down into sugar and feed the bad bacteria in the mouth, leading to plaque and tartar buildup.
Canned food may be better for dental health as long as it’s low in carbohydrates and doesn’t contain any added sugars.

High quality canned food highlights:
Higher in meat based proteins
Lower in carbohydrates
Fewer preservatives and fillers
More palatable
Easier to chew and digest
Less processed
Great for all ages
Canned food can be used as a topper or a full meal.
Canned food is also perfect in enrichment toys like lickmats, Pupsicles, and treat dispensing toys.
